Nutrition – Healthy Choices for Growing Kids

Menus include a variety of foods which meet daily nutritional needs and satisfy licensing requirements. When substitutions are necessary, we will maintain the nutritional content of the overall menu and post updates so you know what’s been served.

Meals are served family style and may include your child assisting in areas such as:

  • Table setting
  • Food serving
  • Cleaning up

We encourage children to sample new foods and taste what’s being served; however, we cannot require children to eat them if they choose not to eat all foods served. Please speak with your school director if you have specific concerns because of:

  • Religious reasons
  • Special dietary needs
  • Allergies or other considerations

Building Healthy Habits for a Healthy Future
Our program helps for a lifetime of healthy habits by encouraging balanced nutrition and physical activity in early childhood. Little Scholar's children are on their way to reaching their full potential and avoiding chronic diseases later in life.
Our program includes the following goals:

  • Physical activity: 1-2 hours every day, including outside play when possible.
  • Food: Fruits or vegetables during at least two eating occasions per day. Meals served family style. Avoid fried foods.
  • Beverages: Water, whenever. No sugar-sweetened drinks. For ages two+: low- or non-fat milk.
  • Infant feeding: We support parents’ decisions. Breastfeeding moms can provide milk and are welcome to breastfeed during school time.
